Our Mission

Dear Parishioner(s)

St Nicholas Church has been the cornerstone of Ballyduff /Kilmeaden for generations in fact for over 203 years built in 1822. There are numerous iconic buildings around the world but right here in Ballyduff we have our very own historic building that fosters a sense of place, sense of belonging and a place to worship for so many of our parishioners. For over 200 years Baptisms, Communions, Confirmations, Weddings, and Funeral Ceremonies have all taken place there.

An architectural detailed report carried by Mr Kevin Ryan of the Society of Chartered Surveyors has identified that their needs to be critical restoration works carried out immediately before this beautiful building falls into a permanent state of dereliction and decay. The proposed repairs are essential to manage the dampness and the further deterioration of this church.  Works that must be carried out are:

  • Replace the defective rainwater gutters and down pipes, upgrade storm water drains.

  • Restore ventilation to the roof by retrofitting to the roof spaces.

  • Several windows are rotted and leaking. Repairs and some replacements to wooden frames and glazing needed.

  • Re-lead the stained-glass bull eye windows on the east end of the church.

  • Repair the Bell Tower accessing floor.

  • Upgrade the insulation and ventilation standards of the sacristy area.

  • Test and certify all the electrical works of the church.

  • Decorative breathable paint to be applied internally and externally.

  • Replace all existing floor carpets.

  • Refurbish existing outside toilet to include wheelchair accessibility.

To finance this work, we are now asking everyone living in the Parish and people who has had any connection with this Parish in the past to donate to this very important Church Renovation Project on the attached STANDING ORDER SETUP FORM, which you can use to make financial contributions. Anyone not in a position to donate on the standing order form please contact the Renovation Committee to assist you in other methods of making donations.

Ballyduff /Kilmeaden Parishioners are a very proud people and equally very proud of their community and where they live. We know that you will not be found wanting in supporting the renovation of this wonderful iconic building. We will continually keep everyone updated on the progress of funding and renovation works.

Thank you in anticipation of your support.                                                                                                              Kind Regards,

On behalf of St Nicholas Church Renovation Committee,
